THE AREZZO ANTIQUES FAIR
If you can plan around it, visit the Arezzo Antiques Fair in Tuscany, about an hour from Florence by train. Held on the first Sunday of every month and the Saturday before, it is Italy’s oldest and largest open-air antiques market. Nearly 500 vendors fill Piazza Grande and the surrounding streets with furniture, art, textiles, ceramics, books and unexpected finds of every kind.
Make sure to arrive early (with comfortable shoes!) and leave yourself plenty of time to wander. Bring measurements if you have a particular space in mind, but truly stay open to what you might find.

BEYOND THE MARKETS
Vintage and antique shops can be found all throughout Italy, often tucked onto quieter streets away from the busiest parts of town. Map a few in advance, then explore the surrounding streets on foot. The most interesting dealers are not always found in the most obvious places. Just be sure to remember that an old linen, a small painting, a piece of pottery or a beautifully worn kitchen object can be every bit as meaningful as a larger investment, and considerably easier to fit into a suitcase.
