Mahal carpets are woven in the city of Mahallat, located in central Iran (Persia). Mahal rugs are known for having larger scale patterns and casual look and feel, and were often woven by an entire family. Mahal rugs tend to have a more coarse weave, and patterns that are not quite floral nor geometric, and often feel whimsical and folk-like. The designs on Mahal rugs are unique and make them extremely versatile for a range of interior décor styles. The use of large scale, all-over designs and earthy muted color palettes are characteristics of Mahal rugs that are extremely appealing to design enthusiasts.
