POSITION: Retail Sales Associate

The Vintage Rug Shop is a home furnishings & decor lifestyle brand that is recognized as the destination for shopping a collected, California aesthetic. Our storefront has moved to the vibrant 4th Street shopping district in Berkeley, CA and our team is growing!
We are currently seeking a professional, upbeat, stylish & creative sales associate to join our team. This position isn’t for everyone, we’re seeking a mutually perfect fit. The ideal candidate will have exceptional sales skills and solid experience in retail; will have a high level of integrity and an excellent work ethic. Additionally, the ideal candidate will be able to handle the day-to-day responsibilities of working in a retail store and adept at building strong and lasting customer relationships. This person will be an integral part in the success of our retail presence.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage daily sales activities
- Greet customers and help guide them through the store and determine specific needs while providing excellent customer service
- Build and maintain a loyal client base, and retain customer loyalty by providing clients with personalized service
- Provide accurate product information
- Keep the sales floor merchandised and stocked
- Process all point-of-sale transactions such as sales, returns, exchanges and gift cards
- Increase customer base by proactively reaching out to customers when new items arrive, and adding all new contacts/customers to contact list
- Support with stock checking and ordering
- Receive and check-in product deliveries
- Safely and professionally pack and fulfill all inbound online orders for shipping
- Understand and know all operational procedures to properly execute daily operations
- Secondary responsibility when not selling; tagging, restocking, cleaning, organizing stock room and merchandising
- Partner with the team to resolve online and in store customer service issues
- Ability to work as part of a team and take initiative, independent of direct supervision
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of retail experience, home decor or boutique environment preferred
- At least 1 year in a key holder role
- Must be available to work weekends (especially Sundays) and during the holiday season
- Knowledge of Shopify, Excel and Google Docs
- Demonstrate outstanding customer service
- Be a self-starter who is results oriented and committed to fostering an exciting store environment
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Be a team player, self motivated, and carry a positive can-do attitude
- Prides oneself on accuracy and attention to detail
- Must live in the San Francisco Bay area with reliable transportation
- Ability to lift and mobilize large items up to 50 lbs. while utilizing appropriate equipment and safety techniques
SALARY + BENEFITS
This is a, hourly, full time position located in Berkeley, CA. We offer competitive pay dependent on experience and discounts on merchandise.
