Peppermint Hot Chocolate
INGREDIENTS (6 SERVINGS)
6 cups whole milk
1.5 cups heavy whipping cream
8 tablespoons granulated sugar
1.5 cups semisweet chocolate chips
1.5 cups milk chocolate chips (we used Guittard, but any premium chocolate will work)
1.5 teaspoons peppermint extract (adjust according to preference. 1.5 teaspoons will give you a subtle peppermint taste)
1.5 teaspoons vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Garnish with assorted toppings (peppermint sticks or candy canes, whipped cream, marshmallows, chocolate shavings)
Bourbon (we used Bulleit, you can also substitute with Vodka or Baileys)
Preparation
In a large pot or dutch oven add in milk, heavy whipping cream, sugar, vanilla and peppermint extract, and a pinch of salt. Whisk together and heat over stove on medium-low temperature. Bubbles will start to form, but don’t boil.
Reduce the heat to low, add in chocolate chips, and extracts. Whisk again until chocolate is melted and blended. The appearance should be a glossy, thick consistency.
Once you pour into a mug, add in ¾ ounce of bourbon (about half a shot) or whatever you prefer.
Garnish with all the topping for a truly spirited beverage! This is always a fan favorite in our home. Enjoy in our Nettle Splatterware Mugs.
