Heriz is a village located east of Tabriz in Persia Iran in a land that is heavily influenced by Turkish and Caucasian nomads. Heriz carpets are distinguished primarily by their rectilinear and angular designs, much different than the typical Persian scroll and vine designs. Most typically a Heriz carpet will have a central medallion with angular corners. Another distinguishable feature is the double-outline technique where the geometric design is separated from the field by two out-lines in different colors. Heriz rugs also carry a heavy, thick pile and cotton warp and weft. Heriz rugs are highly durable and this structure contributes to the stability of even the oldest Heriz rugs, which have been passed down for generations. Heriz rugs are arguably the most recognizable type of Persian carpets because of their dense construction, distinctive geometric tribal designs, and classic bold color palette of crimson red and saturated blue, most commonly alongside ivory. Decorating with Heriz rugs brings a bold yet sophisticated element to a space. Heriz rugs are versatile, functional, and time honored. Heriz carpets are hard-wearing due to the strength of the wool from the Heriz region and will outlast generations of use.
