I went to the mall this weekend, around noon, with the intention to quickly pick something up. The first mistake I made was shopping at noon on a Saturday. The second mistake – shopping at noon on a Saturday 6 weeks before Christmas! At first I couldn’t figure out why there were so many people everywhere, on the streets, driving like lunatics, and trying to park in the same parking spot as me that I had been waiting for for 20 minutes.
Then it hit me… Christmas is coming!
I am a little jelly that most of you are already on your Christmas game, pinning Christmas trees and holiday decor back in July, and I bet many of you already have your Christmas shopping half-way done! Even my fiancee has been listening to Christmas music since September (actually I’m not surprised about this one, I think he listens to it year around!)
This year I’ve come to realize I’m definitely one of those people who can’t start planning for the next holiday until the current one is through. Now I just need to learn to get past that!
Today’s project is directed at all you folks who already have your Santa hat on:
DIY glittery holiday banner
- alphabet stencils (I picked mine up at Michael’s)
- glitter of choice (I used German glass glitter for it’s vibrant but antique-y feel)
- a large piece of Tupperware to catch all the glitter
- school glue
- pen or pencil
- box cutter
- craft paint brush
- tiny hole punch
- string or yarn
- medium weight chipboard (or cardboard, whatevs)
STEP 1 Trace your letters STEP 2 cut them out STEP 3 paint a light coat of school glue on each letter STEP 4 place the letter in the glitter-filled Tupperware and coat completely in glitter STEP 5 allow the letter to dry, about 30-45 mins STEP 6 turn the letter over and punch 2 holes on each side of the letter (vs. one hole, 2 holes helps the letter hang from the string more evenly) STEP 7 string your glittery letters on yarn, hemp, or twine, then hang and enjoy!
Do you love this banner but don’t feel like getting glitter all over your own house? Well, good news! I have them in the shop just for you!
